Scratch-board Art - Thinking In Reverse

This scratch-board project was done as a building-block project to help prepare students for printmaking.  We started with some drawing practice with a focus on shading with line.  In a drawing, lines that are closer or thicker look darker, lines that are further apart and thinner look lighter.  However, in scratch-board and printmaking the scraping/carving action creates the lighter values, as opposed to drawing where the marks that are made on the drawing surface create the darker values. So, thinking in reverse takes a little getting used to!
